Pittsburgh 3, Atlanta 2: Petr Sykora redirected Sidney Crosby’s slap shot on a power play with 2:40 remaining to give the Penguins a win over the Thrashers, the Penguins’ seventh win in their last eight games.

New Jersey 3, Florida 1: Patrik Elias and Brian Gionta each had a goal and an assist in the Devils’ 3-1 victory. Scott Clemmensen finished with 23 saves for New Jersey.

Vancouver 3, Minnesota 2: Daniel Sedin scored the winner midway through the third period for the Canucks, who also got goals from Steve Bernier and Pavol Demitra in their second win over the Wild this season.

Chicago 6, Dallas 3: Kris Versteeg scored the tiebreaking power-play goal with 30 seconds left in the second period, and Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 31 shots for the Blackhawks.

Detroit 4, Edmonton 3: Jiri Hudler scored two goals, and Chris Osgood made 30 saves to help the Red Wings beat the Oilers in Edmonton. Pavel Datsyuk and Tomas Kopecky added power-play goals for Detroit,

Calgary 1, Colorado 0: Miikka Kiprusoff made 18 saves for his second shutout of the season, and Daymond Langkow scored his fifth goal of the season for the Flames.

Los Angeles 5, Washington 2: Patrick O’Sullivan scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period and Dustin Brown added a power-play goal for the Kings. The Capitals played without defenseman Mike Green (shoulder), Alexander Semin (upper-body) and Sergei Fedorov (ankle).

Around the rinks

Columbus Blue Jackets: Recalled right wing Derek Dorsett from the club’s AHL affiliate in Syracuse. The 21-year-old Dorsett has one goal, one assist and 56 penalty minutes in 10 games with Columbus this season.
